"Victory Day"
47 has said that he wants to rename "Veterans Day" to "Victory Day", yet another slap in the face to our Veterans!
This week our President signed a Proclamation declaring May 8th as “Victory Day” in commemoration of “the beginning of the end of years of long, gruesome, and brutal warfare.” during World War II. While in general I have no major problem with this, I have a lot of respect for those willing to serve our country in the military, many of which are members of my own family, none of which are part of the Trump family I believe (but I digress). . . what I have a problem with is Truth Social post that he made seven days prior on May 1st stating that this wasn’t the only day that would hold that name. It seems that he also plans to declare November 11th “Victory Day” - even though we already know and celebrate it as Veteran’s Day. Why does he feel the need to celebrate the specific end to the war and our part of that, which also takes it away from celebrating our Veteran’s who put their lives on the line during those times?
A little history that I found - originally referred to as Armistice Day - in November of 1919 President Wilson proclaimed “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…” In 1938 An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U.S. Code, Sec 87a) made November 11 each year a legal holiday set aside to to honor Veterans of World War I. Because World War II required so many soldiers, Marines, and airmen the Act of 1938 was amended, the word “Armistice” was replaced by the word “Veterans” and with the approval of Public Law 380 November 11 became a day to honor American Veterans of all wars.
Based on his Truth Social post I fully expect 47 to post a Proclamation on November 11 declaring that Veterans Day is now Victory Day in to commemorate World War I. Will him changing the name do anything to solve real problems that we are having in our country with healthcare, the economy, education, etc…absolutely not! Will it make our Veterans feel even less appreciated and seen by their government and Commander in Chief, for sure! Anyway, just my two cents. Hopefully, he will change his mind about this, but knowing him and his 5th-grade mentality and maturity level, I won’t be holding my breath.

Update: I found this article this morning (5/9/25). I wouldn’t be surprised if he still goes through with changing the name because he is not a fan of being told he can’t do something and won’t like the idea of not doing what he wanted, but we will see in November. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2025/05/05/white-house-retreat-trumps-short-lived-proposal-rename-veterans-day.html
